What I do and don’t like in the model of Diamond and van Merrienboer

  1. The advice is to make an ideal program. ViP advises to develop a realistic program. ViP focuses on the crucial requirements to sole your design problem. Which is more realistic. An ideal program does not exist. You innovate step by step.
  2. The process is rather linear. Start with the objectives etc. But he also say the process is not really linear. So , he should be more consequent.
  3. How do you find your objectives and all kind of other teaching activities.? There are suggestions but too general (I think).
  4. Also D. is not stressing the real design or development questions. The design process in hidden in the model and explanations and but this will happen in the background in the reality.
  5. The planning of change is also hidden.
  6. But is gives a good overview of al subtasks which have to be fulfilled.

  1. The model is OK: all important elements are described. The evidences are also clear. Very good. But the last three phases of design and development are not included (development etc). See remark of van M. self. vM. shows the importance of the main elements you have to take into account when you want to learn the students complex tasks or competences.
  2. How to find coherence is not explained in detail. The clusters of subtasks have to be planned carefully.
